Aviro360: Yard Visibility Turns Blind Spots into Capacity

Warehouses have invested heavily in better visibility inside the four walls. The yard can be a different story. On this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, Kevin sits down with Ilhan Kolko, President and Managing Director at Aviro360, a company focused on real-time yard visibility and gate automation.

Built out of logistics operator ConGlobal, Aviro360 combines computer vision, AI, and lightweight hardware to track what is happening outside the warehouse. Ilhan explains why many yards still operate with incomplete information, how that affects decisions, and where automation can unlock capacity.

The Gap Between the System and the Yard

Yard blindness starts when the system says one thing while operations tell another. Aviro360 surveyed 367 logistics professionals to understand the size of that gap. “Although about ninety-three percent of them have some sort of a system of record, almost sixty percent of them reported lacking complete yard visibility.”

That missing visibility can follow an asset through the entire yard. Teams may not know exactly when it arrived, where it moved, how long it sat, or what its current status is. Information may eventually get recorded, but not soon enough to help. Ilhan describes the consequence simply: “there’s a lack of visibility that is resulting in what we call decision latency.”

The problem isn’t necessarily a lack of software. It’s getting accurate information from the physical operation into those systems fast enough to act on it.

Real-Time Data Changes the Economics

At the gate, Aviro360 uses computer vision to identify assets and automatically apply a site’s business rules. Ilhan says that can dramatically reduce processing time. “This way, we can cut back processing time to less than fifteen seconds per asset.” He says typical processing can range from two to eight minutes.

The difference becomes even more noticeable during yard inventory. Manual checks can take several hours, and the information may already be stale by the time someone enters it. Aviro360’s technology identifies assets and their locations while vehicles move through the yard.

One deployment offers a useful comparison. “And our record is we were able to do this at a depot where there are six thousand containers. We were able to take inventory in fifty-nine minutes.” Ilhan also says the technology can reduce dwell time by at least eight minutes per asset and administrative-error workload by at least 70 percent.

The Yard Becomes the Next Automation Frontier

For Ilhan, the bigger opportunity extends beyond faster gate processing or better inventory counts. Transportation visibility and warehouse technology have advanced quickly, while the space between them has received less attention. “We see the yard as the next frontier, right?”

That matters because every unnecessary search, delay, manual entry, and staffed-only process consumes capacity. Ilhan says Aviro360’s research estimates nearly $12 billion in value is lost each year through yard inefficiencies.

Computer vision and AI could begin changing that equation. “I think we can really unlock this dormant capacity and add it back to our supply chain.” Ilhan sees that progression eventually supporting safer, more autonomous yards that operate beyond traditional staffed hours. The opportunity isn’t only reducing cost. It’s finding capacity that already exists but isn’t being fully used.
